Pete and Camilla left army life behind in 1974 and spent most of the rest of their working lives owning and operating auto dealerships in the Northwest.
In 2001 their oldest child, Kelcey, founded a wildlife reserve in South Africa now called Lapolosa Wilderness, which has since grown to encompass 25 square miles of beautiful Drakensberg Highlands..
Pete and Camilla have been involved since the beginning as members of the Board of Directors of the Wild Terra Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit founded by Kelcey in 2002. which provides funding to conservation projects in South Africa, Namibia and Botswana.
After selling their business in 2006, Pete and Camilla traveled extensively in Southern Africa and managed Lapolosa Wilderness for two years.
In 2014 they began to share their Africa experiences with classmates and friends. This grew into Academy Safaris.
